Artist Statement

My short film, “Remembering Grams”, is centered around my father’s recollections of my great-grandmother. The film is rooted in the interview but cuts away to a narrative about my great-grandmother’s 35mm film slides. The final product captures the ephemerality of memory and the power of concrete objects have in remembering those that have passed away.

I used a shallow depth of field to focus on specific actions within the film slide narrative and to emphasize my father during the interview portion. The film was minimally color corrected. Curves and shadows/highlights adjustments were made to the interview as to lessen the contrast caused by the window light.
