Later this week, my supervisor & I will be going to Warm Springs, Oregon to interview and photograph one of the AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers we work with and visit the outdoor market she organizes! My supervisor reached out to the AmeriCorps & we’ll be doing an Instagram “takeover” on the day we travel to Warm Springs.

There was a bit of planning to do before the site visit & I helped sort out some of the details. The plan is to post photos at the beginning of the visit and at the end - these posts will provide context for the images/videos we add to the page’s story throughout the day.

Another update — I finished editing the four batches of client photos my supervisor sent! We now have polished, edited photos of four of our clients (PDX Empanadas, Flexible Fitness, Yvonne Chung, and Alicia Bashir) that we can use to feature them or add to Canva designs.

ASSIGNMENT: Advertise class

Channel: LinkedIn

Context: In the past, MCNW utilized their social media channels to advertise upcoming classes. We’ve started to move away from this and diversify our post content but it’s still important to shoutout specific upcoming classes. One of our entry-level classes is our Small Business Orientation. As our LinkedIn audience is comprised primarily of business professionals and educators, I thought this class would be an appropriate one to highlight.

Process:

  • Check trainings schedule on MCNW website

  • Choose Canva template + reformat for LinkedIn

  • Find image from past classes + drop into template along with text

  • Write copy + include link to training homepage

  • Proof + post

Join us next Monday for our first Small Business Orientation of the month! No advanced registration required - just drop by & we'll match you to the program best suited for your goals. ----------------------------------Can’t make it or want to read-up on our programs before the event? Our visit to the Warm Springs outdoor market is tomorrow! My supervisor wrote copy for each of our posts & had me proof them. Throughout the site visit, she’ll be recording content on her phone & posting to Instagram. I’ll bring my DSLR & shoot some photos that will hopefully be used in a blog post or other outlet.

One of my coworkers is creating a presentation on the use of strategic hashtags. Up until this point, we’ve been using blocks of hashtags — in other words, hashtaging every relevant word/phrase (see photo for reference). While this method may improve visitor traffic to our posts, it’s unlikely that those visitors are relevant or will interact with our content. By analyzing our feed, my coworker determined block hashtags to be unnecessary and holiday-specific hashtags capture the most likes/interactions. From now on, we’ll switch to using hashtags strategically and sparingly. We’ll incorporate MCNW-specific hashtags (#FueledByMCNW #FundYourDreams) along with holiday hashtags to better reach our target audience.

Along the same line, I spent some time looking into relevant holidays to add to our social media calendar - this PDF from Sprout was especially helpful! As a result of my researching, I discovered that next week is National Farmers Market Week. I was aware of a few MCNW clients that sell at farmers markets - so I reached out to my supervisor & checked our business directory to form a list of small businesses we could feature. I reached out to two businesses & set up times to visit them at their respective famers market.

We went to Warms Springs today!

This was an exciting experience that deepened my appreciation for the people I get to work with at MCNW. The AmeriCorps VISTA was such a joy to talk to - her love for her community is evident by the passion she puts into her work.

I took posed and candid photos throughout the site visit. My supervisor managed posting on the AmeriCorps Instagram & recorded our interview (which I offered to help transcribe in the future).

I'll add photos as soon as I finish editing them!

Today I met with one of the farmers market vendors I reached out to earlier in the week! Took some photos that will be added to our content bank & posted next week.
