It was a really busy week! Here are some of the projects I worked on —

6 August 2019

As I mentioned last week, August 4-10th is National Farmers Market Week. I spent today creating and curating content related to the holiday.

ASSIGNMENT: LinkedIn Farmers Market Week post #1

Context: Our LinkedIn audience is business-oriented, so I wanted to post something that framed the holiday in a way that would be relevant. My coworkers suggested I use statistics, facts, and current news to tie in National Farmers Market Week to our small business/entrepreneurial LinkedIn audience.

Process:

  • Research economic benefits of farmers market

  • Write copy relating article to MCNW’s mission

  • Proof + post

“I can hardly afford to feed my growing kids, and junk food is more affordable than healthy foods these days,” explained one shopper. “Thanks to Double Up, I have the opportunity to expose my kids to fresh, local healthy food!” -----------------------------Farmers markets are crucial to ensuring disadvantaged communities have access to fresh produce. Oregon-based Farmers Market Fund is working to achieve food justice through the expansion of the Double Up program which matches each dollar Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients spend at markets around the state. ASSIGNMENT: Instagram Farmers Market post #1

Context: Use photography from Vancouver Farmers Market to showcase client (Farm Maid Soap). Clients are former IDA recipients.

Process:

  • Find + edit photos

  • Write copy

  • Tag appropriate accounts & use hashtags strategically

  • Proof + post

Over the weekend we stopped by the @vancouverfarmersmarket to visit our friends and former IDA-recipients Farm Maid Soap! Using milk from their own goats, Farm Maid developed original recipes for high quality, all-natural skin and beauty products. From poppyseed muffin to a bar lovingly called “dirt,” their soap offerings include over 80 different scents. Find them weekends at the Vancouver Farmers Market and other markets in the Portland-area! #ShopSmall #NationalFarmersMarketWeek

Brainstorm for future posts:

  • Advertise vendor spots for MCNW Holiday Market

  • Staff meeting presentation on clients (possible features): Lami Body Repair Gracie’s Apizza Audreyweaves.com

  • Upcoming Women in Business Seminar (August 24th)

It’s the last weekend of #NationalFarmersMarketWeek & we took the opportunity to stop by the @cullyfarmersmarket and grab a drink from @alchemy.elixirs! Owners Ryan & Michael serve up medicinal plant remedies that nourish, energize, and heal at markets all around Portland. Sad that National Farmers Market Week is coming to an end? Celebrate year-round by supporting the local farmers and artisans that help our economies & communities thrive. #ShopSmall#FueledByMercyCorpsNorthwest

ASSIGNMENT: LinkedIn Farmers Market post #2

Context: Small business to be featured on Instagram (Alchemy Elixirs) was recently featured on MCNW blog — post describes their small business journey.

Process:

  • Write copy that frames blog post for LinkedIn audience

  • Link to blog post

  • Proof + post

“Mercy Corps Northwest did a great job setting me up… The community there is amazing; they taught me how to take care of the finances, how to write a business plan and how to do the planning upfront.”------ As hashtag#NationalFarmersMarketWeek comes to an end, we thought we’d share the story of current farmers market vendor, Alchemy Elixirs. Started in 2018, owners Ryan & Micheal participated in the IDA program and worked with us through our Business Foundations classes to launch their business. With a unique beverage line that utilizes medicinal plants, Alchemy Elixirs has become a staple at farmers markets throughout the Portland area.
